Level: College Prep Grade Level: 10-12
Prerequisite: Course 596
Painting and Drawing builds upon the Fundamentals of Art. This course presents a more
in-depth approach than course 605. Students will expand their capabilities to create expressive, well-crafted, two-dimensional
compositions. This process will include the exploration of techniques, aesthetic concepts and critical decision-making, making it
possible to resolve a variety of visual problems. Students will draw still life and the human figure from observation, create
imaginative narratives, interpret shapes, and form landscapes and cityscapes. In addition, they will choose a theme, which they will
develop into a series, working outside the traditional picture frame. Students will organize and express their conclusions through
experimentation with various media, including charcoal pencil, pastels, and acrylic paint on paper and canvas.
